Starting a fitness program is never simple. It is easy to start but hard to keep with it if you are not seeing results quick enough. You might be just getting bored and just need some new ideas to keep moving forward. Here are Seven Tips to keep you motivated.

  1. Have Fun – Find activities and sports that you really enjoy doing. Then change up your routine to keep your body always guessing.Try something different and new.Join a health club, take ballroom dances, and try martial arts, softball or volleyball. If you’re enjoying yourself you will stick with your fitness plan. Exercise can be fun, it doesn’t have to be work.
  2. Make Goals – Make simple goals to start with then ease in to longer range ones. Make sure your goals are achievable and realistic. If your goals are hard too hard to achieve then you will likely give up on your fitness program. An example, if you are just starting out, a short-term goal might be to run 10 mins a day, three times a week. An intermediate goal would be to run 30min a day, for 5 days a week.A long-term goal would be to complete a 5K run.
  3. Schedule Time For Exercise – Make time for physical activity. If it is hard to find time don’t make excuses, be sure to have it on your daily routine. You can add physically activity to your day by just taking the stairs instead of the elevator, lift weights or ride a stationary bike while watching television.
  4. Write it down – Put your goals on paper.Seeing your goals and benefits on paper can really help you stay motivated.Having an exercise journal may also help you say focused. Recording what you did while you exercised and how you felt before and after will help you work towards your goal and remind you of your improvements and progress.
  5. Invite Friends – Ask your friends or co-workers to join you.Chances are you are not the only one wanting to exercise.Get your partner or family to work out or join a health club with you. We are all in this together! Fitness is for Everyone!
  6. Reward yourself - Take a few minutes to enjoy the great feelings that exercise gives you after each exercise session. This internal reward can help you stay on track and make a long-term commitment to a regular exercise program. When you reach a longer range goal, treat yourself to a new pair of walking shoes or new music to enjoy while you work out or exercise.
  7. Be flexible – Take a break if you need it, weather you are too busy or don’t feel up to it, take a few days off. The important thing is to get back on track as soon as you can, so try not to be too hard on yourself.

Now that you feel motivated again, get moving! Set your goals, Have fun and reward yourself from time to time. Physical activity is for life.

Review these tips whenever you feel your motivation slipping.
